What Items Can We Transport and What Won’t We?
A production team has left essential equipment at a venue. A garage needs a replacement part before work can continue. Or you have bought a sofa online and need it collected without trying to squeeze it into a family car. The question is often simple: what items can we transport and what won’t we transport?
At DB Couriers, we arrange dedicated transport for a wide range of business and personal consignments. Your load travels from collection to destination in a vehicle selected for the job, without being passed through sorting depots or transferred between vehicles. That direct approach is particularly useful when time, careful handling or clear communication matters.
What items can we transport?
We transport items that need a direct, practical journey within the UK, from a small document envelope to larger loads that require a Luton van. The right option depends on the item’s size, weight, quantity, collection and delivery points, and whether there are any access restrictions at either end.
For an urgent one-off delivery, you may need a car or small van. For stock, furniture, equipment or several pallets, a medium, extra-long-wheelbase or Luton van may be more suitable. Tell us what you are moving and we can help identify the vehicle that makes sense for the load.
Urgent documents, laptops and personal belongings
Time-critical smaller items are a common reason to book a dedicated courier. We can collect urgent legal documents, contracts, tender paperwork and business records when they need to reach a customer, office or site without unnecessary handling.
We can also transport forgotten laptops, keys, passports, luggage and other personal belongings. These bookings are often arranged at short notice, whether someone has left an essential work device at home or needs an item sent to another UK location. A direct vehicle means the consignment stays with the same journey from collection to delivery.
Automotive, engineering and trade parts
A missing part can hold up a repair, a production line or a booked installation. We regularly move automotive components, engineering parts, tools and trade supplies for businesses that need to keep work moving.
The item itself matters, but so does the practical detail. A small component may travel in a car, while heavier or bulkier items may require a van. If a part is awkwardly shaped, secured to a pallet or needed on a site with limited access, mention this when requesting a quote. It helps us plan the collection properly and send a suitable vehicle.
Business stock, pallets and retail consignments
Dedicated courier transport can be a useful option for urgent stock replenishment, branch transfers, supplier collections and customer deliveries. We can move boxed stock, retail displays, samples, promotional materials and palletised consignments where a direct journey is the right fit.
Pallet transport depends on the pallet dimensions, total weight and whether loading equipment is available. A pallet that can be loaded at a warehouse may need a different arrangement from one being collected from a small unit or delivered to a location without a loading bay. Giving clear details at the booking stage helps avoid delays and ensures the vehicle is appropriate.
Construction materials and site equipment
Construction and maintenance work can be affected by a missing tool, fixture or delivery of materials. We can transport suitable construction supplies, tools, fittings and equipment between suppliers, yards, sites and customer premises.
Site collections and deliveries need a little extra planning. Let us know whether there are booked delivery slots, security requirements, vehicle restrictions, stairs, narrow access or a named contact on site. This allows us to give you realistic guidance and keep communication clear from collection through to delivery.
Exhibition, event and production equipment
Exhibitions, events and productions often run to tight schedules. We can move stands, display materials, cases, props, lighting equipment and other suitable production items directly to a venue, studio or event location.
For these jobs, the collection and delivery timing can be as important as the journey itself. Tell us about any venue access windows, loading areas and the number of items involved. A direct vehicle can be especially helpful when equipment needs to arrive together and be handled with care.
Furniture, white goods and small moves
Private customers can use our transport service for furniture collections, white goods deliveries, marketplace purchases and small house moves. This may include a sofa collected from a seller, a dining table moved between homes, or several boxes and pieces of furniture taken to a new address.
We also assist with office relocations where businesses need desks, chairs, boxed files, equipment or stock moved between premises. These services are transport-focused. We can move the agreed items, but you should let us know if there are flights of stairs, lifts, restricted parking, large or heavy pieces, or other access issues. We do not imply packing, storage, appliance installation or furniture assembly unless those arrangements have been specifically confirmed.
What won’t we transport?
Some items are not suitable for a standard dedicated courier service. This is partly about safety, but it is also about making sure the vehicle, journey and handling arrangements are appropriate for every consignment.
We do not transport hazardous goods. This can include items such as flammable liquids, gas cylinders, corrosive substances, explosives, toxic chemicals and other materials that require specialist handling or transport arrangements. If you are unsure whether an item falls into this category, describe it clearly before booking rather than assuming it can travel.
We also cannot carry illegal items or anything that cannot lawfully be transported. Customers are responsible for ensuring that their goods are legal to move and for providing accurate information about the contents of the consignment.
Some loads may be possible in principle but unsuitable for a particular vehicle or journey. For example, an item may be too large, too heavy, difficult to load safely or poorly packaged for transport. In those cases, we will discuss the details with you and advise whether a different vehicle, revised collection arrangement or another solution is needed.
How to help us plan the right transport service
The more clearly you describe your consignment, the easier it is to arrange a straightforward collection. We do not need a long explanation, but a few practical details make a real difference: what the items are, how many there are, their approximate size and weight, and whether they are boxed, loose, palletised or particularly fragile.
It also helps to share the full collection and delivery postcodes, any preferred dates or times, and relevant access information. A city-centre office collection, a warehouse delivery and a residential sofa move can all need different planning. If there are stairs, parking restrictions, loading bays, site security or someone who must be present, include that from the start.
For businesses arranging repeat deliveries, we can discuss regular courier requirements and business courier accounts, subject to approval. This can make repeat bookings and centralised billing easier to manage while retaining the flexibility to book the vehicle you need.
Whether you are sending an urgent part across the North West, arranging a nationwide delivery or collecting furniture from a private seller, start with the item and the journey details. Request a free quote and we will help you arrange transport that suits the load.
